School Tours

The Chinese Education Center Elementary School is part of the San Francisco Unified School District.  We provide a one-year transitional program for Chinese-speaking, recently-arrived immigrant students in Kindergarten through fifth grade.  It was established in 1969 at the urgency of the Chinese community in San Francisco to address the educational and social needs of newcomer students and families.  We offer a specially designed academic program that addresses the needs of newcomer students.  All classroom teachers are certificated with BCLAD (bilingual) competencies.

We teach our students to take responsibility for their learning and put forth their best effort in whatever they do.  Our goal is to prepare them for a successful transition into other District school programs within a year by using specialized, intensive English Language Development and bilingual approaches. We educate newcomer families for their lives in a new country. We support the ongoing and changing needs of the students and families within a positive, nurturing, and academic environment which respects their own culture.  It is our vision that our students will be responsible, respectful, productive, and concerned citizens.
